Balin Clothing and Balin Surf Accessories
Two surfers, Ian Brett and Jon Wilson established BALIN in 1974. They met on the beaches of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia and started a business producing surfboard leashes and surfboards to support their lifestyle, of surfing and travelling.
In the 1970s urethane surfboard leashes were a new thing. Through constant experimenting and testing the two partners designed a new technically advanced system that was later to become the standard for nearly all surfboard leashes, manufactured globally. With a surf leash that was far better than anything on the market, they set off around the world to sell their revolutionary product. The business has grown over the last 30 years to a full time global operation, with a large staff still based in Victoria, Australia and agents, distributors and customers all over the world.
Today Balin still produces the strongest surf leash ever, along with a host of other ocean driven products, from hardware to its world renowned boardshorts and lifestyle clothing, for surfers all over the globe. Jon Wilson, one of the founding partners still owns the business and therefore the passion of the brand is still very much about floating on a surfboard and not on the stock exchange. Balin, keeping it real since 1974.
