Quicksilver was founded in 1970 in Australia, when Torquay surfers Alan Green and John Law came up with the idea of selling wetsuits for a living. They redesigned the wetsuit, creating one that was specifically designed for surfing, and over time, introduced a range of Quicksilver Surfwear products, including water durable surfshorts specifically designed for surfers.
Quicksilver Clothing aims to produce genuine, original and functional gear for hard-core surfing participants. The idea caught on and soon they had a surf brands following.
By the mid-1970s, Alan and John had partnered with Americans Jeff Hakman and Bob McKnight, where they produced their boardshorts from Newport Beach, California. From here they continued to build the Quicksilver brand based on word of mouth, quality and unbelievable service.
From those humble beginnings of distributing Quicksilver clothing directly to consumers, Quicksilver clothes are now a global company with a portfolio of lifestyle brands such as Roxy, Hawk Clothing, Gotcha and Radio Fiji. Quicksilver have since advanced into being the market leaders of the international teen and young adult surf/sports fashion industry and action sports market.
