Rip Curl, the name is synonymous with anything and everything in surf culture, past, present and future. With beginnings producing surfboards from a garage near the legendary Bells beach break, Australia, in 1969, they have grown to be one of the biggest surf brands on the surf scene, sponsoring many of the world's best surfers and WCT events. The company was founded by Doug "Claw" Warbrick and Brian "Sing Ding" Singer and in 1970 they made the decision to begin production of specialized wetsuits, with an emphasis on transforming diving technology into a wetsuit suitable for surfing.
Rip Curl Clothes took over an old house in Torquay and made a small investment in a pre-World War II sewing machine. Claw and Brian put together a Crew of locals and went into production, cutting out the rubber on the floor and handing the pieces to an over-worked and underpaid machinist. By today’s standards, the prototype Rip Curl Wetsuits were primitive, but they differed from others on the market in that they evolved through interaction with surfers. Like it has been for over 30 years, Rip Curl Boards were at the forefront of research, development and technology in surfing.
By 1973, Rip Curl led the Australian market in surfing wetsuits. At this time, Warbrick and Singer thought it was the perfect opportunity to approach the Australian Surfriders Association - who ran the annual Bells Beach Easter contest - about sponsoring the event, hence making it Australia's first professional surfing competition. The Rip Curl Pro was born and now ranks as one of the top global surf events on the tour.
Today Rip Curl produces not only Rip Curl Surf Gear but also Rip Curl Apparel, Rip Curl Mountain Wear, Rip Curl Eyewear, Rip Watches, Rip Curl Footwear, Rip Curl Luggage, Rip Curl Bags and Rip Curl Accessories. Rip Curl Surfwear has become one of the largest board wear brands in Australia, Europe and South America and is growing rapidly in North America. Rip Curl remains a private company.
Rip Curl have been the market leaders in surfing clothes, surf accessories and surfwear for over 30 years and their aim in making surfboards, especially handcrafted custom boards, is to fit the board to the surfer to where he wants to go on a wave. Rip Curl's Watch technology is more advanced than one ever thought possible. With a quick glance at your wrist our Rip Curl Tide Watches let you know what the tide is doing and when. Our Mountainwear is designed to give the surfer ultimate amounts of freedom, while keeping them warm, comfortable and stylish on the snow.

On the snow Rip Curls Snowboarders Per Loken and Andy Finch give the team air while the Dean Smith is Rip Curl’s Wakeboard whirlybird man.
