"A radical small wave design based on maximum surface area for lift, stability and unbridled speed in tiny surf," is what the legendary ...Lost shaper Matt Biolos aka Mayhem says. The Freak Flag Bean Bag sees him team up once again with US board makers Lib Tech, whose sturdy, eco-conscious, yet performance-driven construction makes this one of our favourite boards for the summer.
The shape is based on ...Lost's Bean Bag model, the original "double ender", but Biolos has added a few characteristically cheeky tweaks: the wing just before the fins to provide extra bite and pull the tail in, the vee bottom that runs through the length of the board... It's a combination that enables quicker rail-to-rail transitions, tighter turns, and generally a more explosive approach to the lip.
Factor in the full-ish, forgiving rails and stable base and you've got user-friendly yet dynamic surfing in even the smallest of waves. It's designed to be surfed off the tail and put on rail, letting you get radical and vertical without bogging or skipping out.
You'll want to go as short as possible without sacrificing stability or float – as ever, size according to weight and ability.
