The Fireball Squaretail Longboard is a McTavish icon and it is important to note it is not just an Evo II with a chopped off tail. The Fireball range over 25 years of history has developed into one of the most sort after longboards in the world. The Squaretails evolution has created an all-round longboard that you can trust to become your daily rider in 1ft slop to a 6ft clean day.

The Squaretail is designed around the four-step routine that has become the benchmark of longboarding technique, whereby each zone is separated by two steps, the Tail, Mid-zone and the Nose.

The tail contains your engine room that will deliver you speed and drive. This is created with a stiff rocker and double concave between your feet, while the fins are located under your back foot to aid drive. Finally, a slight increase in the rocker behind your back foot will dampen the power to allow for steeper drops whilst the squaretail will dig into the face of the wave when called for to allow for a nice sharp turn.

Making our way two steps forward into the mid zone were presented with a nice parallel template, flatter rocker and rail bevels to supply comfortable walking stability, clean trimming across those fast sections and the ability to make it through the sloppier sections of the wave.

Finally, we reach the nose which is a touch smaller than the Evo II and it has a single concave to give you better steering and nose-riding options. The Squaretail has a soft nose rocker but has added width in the nose to stay in touch with modern trends.

Coming set up as a 2+1 with FCSII sides, Bob recommends a 6 to 7 centre fin if riding as a 2+1 or a 9 to 10 fin if riding a single. Enjoy!
