Combining down-the-line speed with effortless glide across slower sections, the Mid-Length Crisis is the first offering from Pyzel's Velocity Project. Its semi-traditional outline is sleek and racey, but with the wide point pushed forward there’s still plenty of stability and carry in weaker waves.
It’ll always be the favourite in a paddle battle, and in bigger surf you'll be able to scoop in early no problem. Beautifully foiled from nose to tail, the rolled deck keeps the bulk of the volume in the middle of the board along the stringer and under the chest for additional paddling ease. Meanwhile the thinned-out rails provide bite and sensitivity, enabling precise surfing off the back foot.
As for the rocker, a moderate clean curve runs from tip to tail, encouraging smooth turns, fast flowing surfing and enhanced wave-catching ability. And thanks to the “spiral vee” bottom (basically a vee with double concave inside it), this board tips easily from rail to rail, making buttery transitions through turns an easy task for all levels of surfer.
Surf it as a single-fin for the full purist experience, or click in a couple of side-bites for added drive and control. The heavier glassing schedule (4oz on the bottom, 6+4 on the deck) is typical of a mid-length board of this sort, and provides extra weight and strength. Available in yellow and Bordeaux red.
