How To Change Skateboard Bushings

Whether you are getting into skateboarding or longboarding, new on the scene or are trying to improve your skills, it’s important to be comfortable with your board and be able to carve and turn with ease.
Often children and smaller adults have problems with getting the board to turn. Carving can be non-existent, and you have to solely rely on pushing down the tail to make turns or manoeuvre around obstacles.

A lot of people don’t realise that this can be easily fixed and at minimal cost. The answer lies cosily nested in your trucks. These round, coloured parts are called bushings, and changing them to the right durometer (hardness or softness) really will make all the difference.
The higher the number, the harder the material. So 100A will be the hardest and they would suit heavier people with more power in their carving. For smaller people, such as a 5’3’’ female weighing just under 8 stone, 92A bushings work wonders and make it a lot easier to manoeuvre the board. These work well for youngsters too.
Even if you aren’t that good a skater, you will look a lot cooler if you can carve and don’t have to keep jumping off to turn the board.
It’s easy to do, all you need is a skate tool and your chosen bushings.
These beautiful pictures below show you how to change skateboard bushings step by step:

Be sure not to over tighten your trucks though as this can cause your new bushings to crack. Once you have skated around on your board a few times, you can tighten the trucks slightly if needed.
Do it right and you’ll be carving like a pro in no time.
