DC skater Nyjah Huston continues to dominate Street League with a win at the third event of the year this past weekend in Los Angeles. In a group of 22 invited professional skaters, the two-time Street League champion (Huston) bounced back from a hard fall in Saturday’s practice to defy expectations and top the competition once again. With consistent skating throughout the day, Huston hovered in 3rd place behind Torey Pudwill and Shane O’Neill as the contest entered the Control Section.
The course hosted some of this year’s strongest skating, as contenders took turns at the top of the leader board. Huston came face-to-face with every skaters nightmare in his 3rd attempt of the Control Section – snapping a kingpin and being forced to borrow O’Neill’s board for his 4th attempt. But Huston earned the contests highest scored trick by throwing down a stylish bigspin flip and claiming a 9.2. It’s solid proof that the real pros can ride anything! After landing a steezy kickflip nose grind with his own set-up on his 5th attempt, Huston secured his victory when Chaz Ortiz bailed on his final trick. For his victory lap, Huston threw a textbook 360 flip frontside Smith grind down the rail, winning first place with a 54.6 score.
“This win felt like no other!” said Nyjah Huston. “All my friends, family, and sponsors in the arena kept me so psyched! They motivated me to overcome the injury and even the broken board. I couldn’t be more stoked! Special thanks to Shane O’Neill for the borrowed board.”
Although Huston already holds a ‘golden ticket’ to the Super Crown World Championships in August with first place finishes at the Pro Open and Chicago’s Stop One, this weekend he gained an additional trophy and another $100,000 for the first place finish. Huston’s latest pro model DC shoe, the Nyjah Vulc has proven to be his good luck charm this season. Since its release in early June, he has not lost a major contest! So what can we say?
