Poppy Olsen: Bowl Skating Champion

Poppy Olsen: Bowl Skating Champion

We might have been a bit late with results of the Vans 8th annual Bowl-A-Rama that ended on the 25th February this year but we didn’t miss the spot light that landed on the talented Poppy Olsen. The 11 year old skateboarder has won so many bowl skating competitions including the women’s division (Under 18) of the Hurley Australian Bowl Rider Championships, organised by Renton Miller. She also was the only girl, and the youngest member of a group of Australian skaters who toured some of the top skate parks in the US with Tony Hawk last year. On the Florida leg of the US tour, she emerged as the highest ranked female competitor in the mixed category, defeating skaters who were at least 10 years older than her.

In Renton Miller’s words “she is an amazing skater, she has a fluid style and she pumps big airs.” We just think she is an inspiration for any young kids that are venturing into an extreme sport. One of our blogs, earlier in the month featured 12 year old Tom Schaar who became a world first at nailing a 1080 on a skateboard. Just shows how many youngsters today are getting out there and challenging limits of the human race.
Thankfully with so many flips and airs going on in her riding, Poppy has protected herself with a solid helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards.
