Features:
- Outline: Short and stubby
- Tail: Winged round tail
- Rocker: Pretty flat, but the rocker/concave combo retains manoeuvrability
- Concave: Vee all the way through
- Construction: MBC aka ECO IMPACTO is extremely resilient and long-lasting. Magnesium and basalt fibres (that's the M and the B) provide great strength and durability in the laminate; the Carbon Power Spine adds great flex and liveliness to the nitrogen-cell polyester blank. Glassed with bio-matrix resin.
- Fin System: FOS II, which is compatible with both FCS systems and also allows 1/2" fin adjustment
- Fin Set-Up: 5-fin
- Eco Credentials: No solvents; recyclable foam blank (all off-cuts are recycled) that is itself 25-40% recycled; no O-zone-depleting blowing agent
"A radical small wave design based on maximum surface area for lift, stability and unbridled speed in tiny surf," is how Lost shaper Matt Biolos characterises the Freak Flag Bean Bag. Sounds quite nice, no? It's another winning collaboration with US board makers Lib Tech, and takes as its starting point the Lost Bean Bag model – the original "double ender" – but features a few key refinements.
Foremost among these is the wing just before the fins, providing extra bite and enabling tighter turning arcs. Quick rail-to-rail transitions are further aided by the vee bottom that runs through the length of the board; add the full-ish, forgiving rails and flat, stable deck and you've got user-friendly rail surfing in even the smallest of waves.
The idea here is to go as short as possible without sacrificing stability or float – this obviously depends on the weight and skill level of the rider. But unlike most short and fat boards, Biolos assures us, you can really the Freak Flag Bean Bag off the tail and put it on rail, getting radical and vertical without bogging or skipping out.
