Thrust into the mainstream in the early 80s thanks to Simon Anderson, the thruster surfboard was made popular by the Australian pro surfer as he wanted to combine the looseness of a twin fin with the hold of a single, which was intended to be used in bigger waves. The modern thruster setup consists of three equal sized fins, two outer ones set forward with a central fin at the back of the surfboard. Over the years, the design has worked in tandem with high-performance shortboards and competitive surfing. The thruster design allows variations in terms of fin cluster spacing and different fin sizes. Still remaining one of the most popular setups today, you can expect to see elite brands such as Pyzel, Lost, Lib Tech & more when you shop thruster surfboards here on Surfdome.
