Grip pads are a real essential to get the most from your time on the waves, so whether you’re an experienced surfer who wants to master that perfect left turn, or you’re a novice who wants to get the positioning of your feet just right, check out our great selection of grip pads.
Grip, tail pad, tail grip – this section of raised grippy rubber is stuck on the tail of your board (on the deck!)
It has a couple of functions, primarily for enhanced grip but also to help you position your back foot.
The rubber with its raised and bumpy sections offers better grip at different angles, which is important as you are pushing the tail of your surfboard into a radical turn.
The fact you have a section of rubber exactly where you need to be standing can also help guide your foot to the best position. Particularly as some have foot arches and kickers at the end.
A grip can also prevent pressure dings from duck dive knee.
So what are your options ? :
Flat grip – great if you find the raised sections other grips offer get in the way either when paddling or duck diving
Foot Arch full length – this is great for extra grip and helps your foot place central to the board. The full length means you can move up and down, so better for bigger wave boards
Foot Arch part length – As above, but better for more precise foot positioning
Wedge / raised end – These stop your feet from sliding off the end of the board when going for that full-on turn! It also helps with foot placement, because the best place for your foot to turn is right up against the wedge. Also remember that wedge / raised ends come in varying heights.
Tip: Grips are a great help for everyone, especially when surfing bare foot, as the pad helps you get better foot placement. Which in turn helps your surfing!
