The garment 's breathability is commonly measured in grams according to its level of insulation while waterproof rating is given in millimetres. Entry level pieces will usually sport a rating of 5000g/5000mm, mid range 10000g/10000mm and optimal performance fabrics meeting or exceeding 20000g/20000mm. Opt for Gore-Tex, DWR coatings and sealed critical seams for added waterproof protection.
