Yes, the Quiksilver Pro & Roxy Pro’s are less than a day away from action! As France prepares for nearly two weeks of quality wave action, pro surfers from all over the world are gearing up to be crowned champion in the 9th round and first stop of the European leg in the ASP World Tour.
Taking place in Landes (South West France) where Nat Young filmed ‘Evolution and Waves of Change’, this picturesque location offers something a little different from those paradise island scenes. Not to be taken lightly, Hossegor has been known to throw 10-12ft waves during the autumn swells and is home to the main contest break.
Surfdome’s ASP Highlight So Far:
It’s got to be John John Florence nailing five 9+ point rides in a heat against Kelly Slater at the Trestles Pro – all on his trusty Pyzel board too.
With past champions Slater, Fanning and Medina all in the top four spots of the overall competition so far, the Quiksilver Pro France is looking to be one hell of a showdown. Defending champion Mick Fanning is the most decorated surfer of the event’s history and is amped to fight off current leader Medina to hold onto his title.
Kicking off alongside the Quiksilver Pro in France is the Roxy Pro. Round 8 out of 10 of the women’s ASP World Tour – it’s time for the girls to ride those emerald green barrels of Landes.
As Hawaiian Clarissa Moore shocked spectators and fellow surfers by placing 9th at Trestles after leading the entire competition, the women’s ASP has been thrown wide open!
With defending champion Sally Fitzgibbons topping the overall leader table and multiple winner Stephanie Gilmore not far behind, the Roxy Pro is looking to be a real battle of the Aussies.
